Key success factors for a business model

Technological advances and societal challenges are driving changes in behavior, leading to the emergence of new practices and forcing companies to reinvent themselves and transform their business models.

In this dynamic environment, there are several key success factors to consider when defining or rethinking a business model:

How we support you in defining your business model

Alcimed’s approach is to challenge and evolve our clients’ existing business models by analyzing new value chains, or to identify and evaluate the most suitable models for new value propositions (new products, new services, moving from a product to a service, etc.) in order to capture the full value of their offer and position them in a relevant way on the market.

We use different tools such as the Business Model Canvas or Odyssey 3.14 , and all our experience in exploring innovative business models!

Examples of recent business models carried out for our clients

    • Business model of a healthcare diagnostic application

Support of a pharmaceutical company in the development of a business model for an application to diagnose the different states and severity of depression.

Several business models were considered (Free, Freemium, Premium, Paymium) and were evaluated based on patient behavior, price levels and the possibility of reimbursement by insurers in particular.

Each model was analyzed in the form of a complete business case and was the subject of strategic partnership scenarios, which allowed our client to project itself and choose the best business model for its application.

    • Business model of a space tug for a space player

Support of a space player having developed a concept allowing to propose services in orbit (satellite relocation, repair, surveillance, etc.) and aiming to be profitable within 7 years.

The business model of this space tug was challenged by evaluating and comparing the ROI and profitability of the services envisaged for 2 types of activities: transport (orbital change, etc.) and geo-services (inspection, refueling, etc.).

Alcimed thus enabled its customer to identify the MVP – Minimum Viable Product (package of services and type of tug) allowing to reach a ROI after 7 years.

    • Study of innovative business models in animal health through a cross-sectorial benchmark

We worked with a leading player in animal health who wanted to imagine new business models linked to new services to be developed.

We organized an “inspiration” workshop with players from different sectors such as Butagaz, Xerox, Samsung and Somfy.

This workshop consisted of 2 steps: the first one consisted of testimonials from these inspiring companies to better understand the history, best practices and key success factors of their models, and the second one during which we co-constructed with our client the business model best adapted for his case.

    • Business case for moving from a product to an integrated solution business model

Our team supported a major supplier of feed ingredients in the transformation of its traditional business of selling solid methionine in powder form (an essential amino acid) to the distribution and sale of methionine in liquid form, which requires, for example, storage tanks.

Our explorers conducted a field investigation on 4 continents (in the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia) with breeding organizations and equipment suppliers in order to evaluate the market receptivity and to define for our client the most relevant business model for its new approach (price, contractual terms, payment terms).

Our analysis of the different markets explored led to the construction of a complete business case by region allowing our client to model the sales forecast of its new business model and to confirm this evolution.

    • Definition of a business model for the launch of a new rapeseed variety in Europe

The rapeseed market is currently mainly focused on the production of oil as a top-of-the-range product, with fodder remaining an under-valued co-product compared with soya fodder.

Our client, a major player in the agri-business sector, wanted to launch a new rapeseed variety with interesting properties for fodder on the European market and wondered what the most appropriate business model was for introducing this variety.

To answer this question, we analysed the organisation and stakeholders of the European market, then explored and assessed the relevance of different business models, in order to establish several scenarios based on our analysis.

Thanks to this work, we were able to co-evaluate these different scenarios with our client in order to build a concrete and relevant business model for the launch of the new product on the European market.

    • Definition of the business model of a health management solution in the US and Europe

Our team helped an international pharmaceutical company to define the business model for a health management solution using applications to treat certain diseases using a holistic approach.

To help our client better understand the different possible models for its solution, we began by identifying the best-performing business models on the market. We then deciphered and analysed how all these models worked in order to identify the most relevant ones for our client.

Through this study, we were able to identify and evaluate three successful business models, each different from the others, and to define with our client the one most likely to bring value to the various players in the market.
